Welcome to the world of dance! Perfect for little ones ages 3–5 taking their very first steps, this introductory class makes learning fun. Your dancer will explore the joy of Highland dance through basic movements, playful rhythm exercises, musicality, and beginner-friendly technique.

Dancers aged 5-7
This class is designed for dancers who have at least one year of Highland dance experience. The curriculum focuses on building upon foundational movements and technique. To ensure success in this class, participating dancers should already possess a basic understanding of the Highland Fling and Sword Dance.

Jr. Nessies
Ages 7+. Dancers who are just learning the Fling & Sword
Keep building those Highland dance skills! This class takes fundamental movements and weaves them into full ready to competed dances. Dancers will gain confidence as they master core steps, technique and learn the traditional Highland Dances, including the Fling, Sword Dance, and Seann Triubhas.

Dancers will expand their Highland technique, learn new repertoire, and even have the chance to take dance exams this spring if they choose! 18+ who have danced in the past
Calling all dancers aged 18 and older! Join us on Tuesday evenings for a fun, recreational class designed specifically for adults with prior Highland dance experience. Whether you have been away from dance for a month or a decade, this class is the perfect way to stay active, refine your technique, and keep up with friends past & present. Come and join the fun!
Highland 101 for Adults
18+ who have never danced
Ever wanted to try Highland dancing but didn’t know where to start? This welcoming, absolute-beginner class is designed specifically for adults with zero prior dance experience.You will learn the fundamental footwork, timing, and posture of traditional Scottish dance in a supportive, low-pressure environment. Each session focuses on building coordination, improving core strength, and mastering basic steps like the Fling and Sword Dance. No kilts or special shoes required to start—just bring your energy, a water bottle, and a desire to try something new!

Elevate your competitive edge! This intensive class is designed for competing dancers ready to push their limits. Training will hyper-focus on the precise technical movements of Highland dance and build the explosive strength needed for the competitions.
Schiehallion Dancers
The Schiehallion Dancers are a group of talented, dedicated SBJ Dance Studio students who enjoy the art of performing. The company first formed in 1967, and since over 500 dancers have enjoyed traveling and performing at many venues, the most prestigious being the Edinburgh Tattoo in 1981, 1986, 2003 and 2008. In 2007 the dancers performed in Belgium, France, Holland and Denmark. In 2010 and 2011 the dancers were invited back to once again perform in North America’s largest military tattoo, the Virginia International Tattoo.
